COMMUNITY SERVICE FORMS DUE JUNE 16
Students have been informed about the Community Service Learning component since the start of the school year. It is the students responsibility to submit these forms by June 16.
Community Service
Community Service is an important, positive opportunity not only for the community but the student as well. The research regarding self-esteem, resiliency, and community relationships indicates a very strong connection that can result in a strong, meaningful experience for all those involved. Service learning provides opportunities for students to be involved in real life situations beyond the curriculum/classroom and into the community to help foster the development of a sense of caring about others.
Expectations:
Grade 6 – 1 hour
Grade 7 – 2 hours
Grade 8 – 3 hours
Students must complete the total number of hours for his/her grade level before the end of the school year. A due date in June will be assigned.

Dear Parent/Guardian,
Health Education is an integral part of the educational experience here at Littleton Middle School. The course provides cognitive information and behavioral skills necessary for students to deal with various life situations, choices and consequences. During term 3 students will learn information about the physical, emotional, and social changes all young people experience while developing during puberty. All lessons will be co-ed and taught during the students regularly scheduled health class. Information will be presented in a balanced, age appropriate, factual way respecting each student. The following topics will be addressed during term 3.
Grade 6 students will be presented with a lesson on Maturation/Puberty. Students will receive the booklet Who Knew? The Growing Up Issue . This booklet addresses the physical, emotional and social changes that take place during puberty. This lesson will be presented in the beginning of June.
Grade 7 students will review what happens during puberty while focusing on the The Endocrine System and learning about the male and female reproductive systems. These lessons will be presented at the end of May.
Grade 8 students will learn about HIV/AIDS during the disease unit and then will have a lesson about Relationships. Abstinence will continuously be stressed. These lessons will be presented in the beginning of May.
Please continue to check the weekend update to learn when exactly these lessons will be presented. You are also encouraged to check the health website http://healthatlms.blogspot.com
I look forward to working with you to ensure that your child has a positive Health Education experience.
Sincerely,
Tricia A. Buonacore
